Chicago Selected As Host City

2024 Democratic National Convention: What We Know So Far

Chicago Selected as Host City

The Democratic National Committee (DNC) has announced Chicago as the host city for the 2024 Democratic National Convention. Chicago previously hosted the convention in 1884, 1892, 1896, and 1968.

The Midwest will host the convention for the first time since President Biden's victory in 2020.

Convention Schedule

The convention will take place from July 22-25, 2024, at the United Center.

Delegates and Voting

Approximately 4,700 delegates from all 50 states and U.S. territories will gather in Chicago to nominate the Democratic presidential and vice presidential candidates.

Delegates are allocated according to each state's population and their performance in the presidential primaries and caucuses.

Why Chicago?

Chicago was selected as the host city due to its:

  • Central location
  • Strong infrastructure, including transportation and hotels
  • Commitment to diversity and inclusion
  • History of hosting successful conventions

The DNC says Chicago "enables us to demonstrate the strength and diversity of our party and our country."

Impact on Chicago

The DNC estimates that the convention will generate a significant economic impact for Chicago, including:

  • Increased tourism
  • Job creation
  • Revenue for businesses

The city is also preparing for increased security measures during the convention, which is expected to attract thousands of visitors.
